Lake St Caterina in Auronzo, Italy
A big contingent of Australian sprint paddlers will contest the Auronzo International Regatta in Italy this weekend.
The newly formed K2 senior pairing will be looking to build on an impressive World Cup display where their best result (ninth) came in Racice.
Also racing the K2W events will be Kawana Waters paddler Alyssa Bull and Rebecca Mann of Bendigo.
Bull and Mann will be hoping to produce some solid results ahead of the ICF Junior and U23 World Championships in Szeged, Hungary from 17-20 July.
Flood and Reynolds will contest the K1W 500.
Another newly established boat this year is the K4W 500 senior crew of Catherine McArthur, Jamie Roberts, Alyce Burnett and Bernadette Wallace.
The quad came within 0.01 seconds of an A final at the third World Cup in Szeged earlier this year. They share a common goal of making the A final in Russia.
National Womens Head Coach David Foureur believes the crew will be much better for the experience come the World Championships which will be held in Moscow from the 6-10 August.
“The young crew is eager to step up and will continue to bond and train the house down over the next few weeks,” Foureur said.
The quad will also contest the K4W 200 with McArthur also set to feature in the K4W 1000 alongside Bull, Mann and Reynolds.
While the senior women will be well represented in Italy, the bulk of the senior men will continue their preparation in Szolnok, Hungary at of the World Championships.
Western Australian pair Bird and Phillips will be the only senior men in action.
The Olympic pairing will contest their pet event, the K2 200 as well as the non-Olympic K2 500.
They will be joined in both events by U23 pairing Mark Stowe and Robert McIntyre. The pair won the U23 selection event at the Oceania Championships earlier in the year.
Our junior athletes will also be well represented.
Western Australian Alex Graham will contest the K1 200. Fellow WAIS paddler Nicholas Pond will race in the K2 200 and K2 500 events alongside Sam McTigue.
In the junior women’s events South Australian Josephine Bulmer and Caitlin Gilliman of Queensland will contest the individual K1 200 and K1 500.
Francesca Kidd and Chloe Sterry, and Brianna Massie and Rachel Duncan will form two K2 pairings and will race the K2 1000, K2 500 and K2 200 events.
Kidd, Massie, Duncan and Bulmer will double up in the K4 500 and K4 200.
