The Victorian Canoe Slalom Championships were held down the Goulburn River last weekend.
Emerging U23 star Jaxon Merritt won the men’s K1 title after he executed a clean run of 74.06 to finish more than seven seconds ahead of three-time Olympian Warwick Draper.
Matthew Haddon and Tristan Carter won the U18 and U16 age groups.
Draper went one better in the men’s C1 final winning in a time of 80.23 ahead of National C1 paddler Christian Fabris who paid the price for two gate touches relegating him down to second in 82.85. Carter continued his excellent weekend with the teenager finishing third in 90.63.
Leanne Guinea dominated the women’s C1 event as expected winning the final in 93.07 which included four seconds in penalties. U23 canoeist Maggie Webster finished second more than nine seconds behind Guinea with U18 paddler Eliza Singleton finishing third.
Singleton continued her impressive display finishing second behind Dita Pahl in the women’s K1 final. Pahl produced a clean fun to win in 87.80, 3.30 seconds ahead of Singleton with Guinea edging Webster for third.
