Men's Gold-medal winning K4 to race off against Oarsome Foursome.
The Men's London Olympic champion K4 crew threw down the gauntlet for the new Oarsome Foursome for a race off to decide who is the fastest Aussie crew.
The gold-medal winning Kayak crew of Tate Smith, Murray Stewart, David Smith & Jacob Clear will race the 2012 silver-medal winning men's Rowing 4; Drew Ginn, Josh Dunkley-Smith, James Chapman and Will Lockwood, on the Yarra River in Melbourne tomorrow.
Six-time Olympic rower James Tomkins will officially start the 500 metre sprint - dubbed the Battle of the Fours - commentated by former Oarsome Foursome teammate Nick Green
The ultimate showdown will take place Tuesday 19th November at 6:30pm as part of the official launch of 776BC. The crews will race over 500 metres from the Southgate Foot Bridge to the Melbourne University Boat Club.
Murray Stewart is certain the 500m distance offers an even chance for both premier crews to take the race, commenting:
"We'll both get there somewhere between 1min20sec to 1min25sec for that distance, so it'll be a good contest."
The Men's K4 crew should get the more explosive start, however the rowers are likely to find superior boat speed toward the back end of the race and come home strongly.
It promises to be an exciting event, regardless of the result.
