The State Organisations of Australian Canoeing have today endorsed a motion to have gender equity on the Board of Australian Canoeing.
The motion endorses the Australian Sports Commission’s Governing Principles and is an important step forward in the governance of Australian Canoeing.
The Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Olympic Committee have publicly stated the merits of increasing the number of women on boards in sport. The establishment of greater gender equity will enhance corporate governance as a full range of skills, experience and expertise will be available.
Australian Canoeing President Danielle Woodward says that she is delighted with the adoption of the motion.
"Australian Canoeing has been proactive in the promotion of equity across a broad range of areas" Ms Woodward said.
"Today is another step in this ongoing process".
The motion will mean that no one gender will constitute less than 40% of representation of the Board.
