Paddlers battled it out for NSW state team selection in 34 degree heat on this unusually hot October Sunday at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
Victorian paddler Warwick Draper laid down the hottest time of the day to win the men's K1 event ahead of Alastair Anderson, also of Victoria. Local Junior Lachlan Croft took out the third position in the open men's K1, while Sydneysider Angus Thompson was the next best junior, followed by Ciran Kelly (NSW.)
In the open women's K1 and C1 it was a repeat of yesterday's results, with speed queen Jessica Fox taking out the double gold, followed by Rosalyn Lawrence in both events. Younger Fox sister Noemi raced well to the third position in the open women's event, making her the first of the junior women. Local juniors Alexandra Broome and Kiara McKay finished as the second and third juniors. Alison Borrows (NSW) was the third finisher in the open women's C1, followed by Noemi Fox and Alexandra Broome in the junior ranks.
The men's C2 event was lead by Forster crew Christian and Kaspar Fiebig, who paddled well to finish ahead of those with more access to whitewater. Warwick Draper and Sally Wright took second place, followed by Angus Thompson and Lachlan Croft.
Ian Borrows raced well again to finish a weekend of domination in the men's C1, finishing ahead of second placed Alastair Anderson (VIC,) who made it a silver double for the day.
A big thank-you goes from all the paddlers to the volunteers who organised the race and ran the event.
