Tim Jacobs wins silver
Australia's Tim Jacobs has taken the silver medal and Cory Hill bronze in the Open Mens SS1 category, at the inaugural Ocean Racing World Championships in Vila Do Conde, Portugal.
After concern that the wind would not pick up for the event, a small breeze was present .More than 380 athletes from 5 continents took part. Jacobs finished in a time of 1:30:36 and was closely followed by teammate Cory Hill in a time of 1:30:46. The winner of the day was Sean Rice of South Africa, in a time of 1:30:06.
In the U23 Mens SS1 category Aussie Michael Booth took 3rd place behind Grant Walt and Brandon Walt both of South Africa. Booths time put him in 11th position overall.
In the Junior Women’s SS1 Aussie Jamie Brinkworth took the bronze behind Kirsten Flanagan (RSA) and Catarina Santos (POR.)
Aussie Tony King also finished 2nd in his masters category.
Our Aussie medal winners will take a share in the 35,000 Euro prize pool.
