The final day of World Cup Wildwater competition took place on Sunday at Valtellina, Italy with the classic race and all the Australian Team was in action.
Madeleine Batters our Junior female paddler competing in the senior ranks finished 13th in the women's K1 in a time of 9:57.63. Madeleine has competed well in the senior World Championships and World Cup series and moves on to the Junior World Championships in Lofer, Austria, where competition commences on the 10th July.
Our other Australian female paddler Kristy Packham finished 16th in a time of 10:53.37. The eventual winner was Manon Hostens from France in a time of 9:20.93 with the German pair of Manuela Stoeberl and Deberah Fogel finishing second and third in times of 9:26.15 and 9:30.23 respectively.
In the men's K1 Robert McIntyre was the best of the Australians finishing 16th in a time of 8:54.57. Brother Alex was 27th in a time of 9:09.74 and Tom Mountney was 29th in a time of 9:14.52. Remi Peter from France took the Gold medal in a time of 8:28.33, just 2.38 seconds ahead of Gerhard Schmid from Austria (8:30.71) with Nejc Znidarcic taking the bronze medal (8:31.31.)
In the men's C1 Norman Weber continued his great 2013 season with another win in a time of 9:23.05 with Ondrej Rolenc from the Czech Republic taking silver in a time of 9:27.07 and Louis Lapointe from
France rounding out the medals in a time of 9:28.06.
In the men's C2 the Guyonnet brothers from France took the Gold in a time of 9:17.65 with the Slovenian pair Znidarsic and Zganjar taking the silver (9:26.25.) Suchanek and Rolenc from the Czech Republic were third (9:31.52.)
In yhe women's C1 the French pair of Marjolaine Hecquet and Julie Paoletti took Gold and silver in times of 10:23.04 and 10:26.44 respectively with the Italian paddler Mariene Ricciardi taking the bronze in a time of 10:56.07.
