Day two of the first ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Szeged, Hungary has concluded with Ken Wallace the best placed Australian, finishing sixth in the mens K1 1000 A Final.
The 28 year old from Currumbin Creek in Queensland headed into the final confident after placing second in his semi final yesterday, but was no match for German champion Max Hoff, who showed his class in an dominant performance.
The two-time World Champion and London Olympic Bronze medallist won in 3:35.21, 2.17 seconds ahead of Belarus young gun Aleh Yurenia, with Denmark’s Rene Holten Poulsen finishing third, just under a second further back.
Wallace finished 7.64 seconds behind Hoff’s winning time, a positive result for the two-time Olympic medallist in the first of three World Cups this year.
Naomi Flood and Bernadette Wallace failed to repeat the form that saw them automatically qualify for the women’s K2 500 final following victory in their heat yesterday, finishing ninth in the final overnight.
The pair finished 6.49 seconds behind Hungarian pair Ninetta Vad and Anna Karasz, who won the gold, 0.26 seconds ahead of Russian duo Vera Sobetova and Natalia Podolskaya.
