Jake Donaghey & Alex Haas
2013 National Sprint Championships
Brisbane Olympians Alex Haas and Jake Donaghey have completed a clean sweep of the two-man canoe events at the national titles in Perth.
Haas and Donaghey today added the 500 metre canoe title to their earlier 1000 and 200 metre victories.
The teenagers stormed onto the Australian Olympic team in London last year in the C2 1000 event, and have continued their strong form this week despite limited preparation.
Haas and Donaghey took time off after London to concentrate on finishing their studies, only returning to training at the end of January.
"Our expectations weren't too high, we just wanted to see where we're at, what we've got to improve on," Donaghey said.
"It really is just a starting point for us."
"For the short amount of work we've done we're obviously happy," Haas said.
"It's tougher, everything's a bit heavier racing, but I think we're both pretty happy with the way things have gone at this regatta."
Donaghey raced in the individual C1 1000 in London, but says it hasn't been a priority for him in Perth.
