Lifestart provides Early Childhood Intervention and School Age Services for children living with disability and their families. Children supported by Lifestart live with a broad range of disabilities, including Down syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, sensory and rare genetic disorders.
Lifestart Kayak for Kids is Lifestart's major annual community awareness and fundraising event and we invite you to be an integral part of the event. It is a community event that provides an opportunity for people to challenge themselves and their teammates and enjoy the pleasure of kayaking on Sydney Harbour in a race from Blues Point to Clontarf. In 2012, we had almost 200 kayaks and 900 paddlers participating in the event – a wonderful sight with the Bridge and the Opera House as the backdrop for the start of the event. Kayak for Kids is in its sixth year and we are hoping to raise upwards of $400,000 in 2013 to support children with disability in our community
Guy Leech, former World Ironman Champion and Kayak for Kids Ambassador said “Kayak for Kids is a unique paddling challenge on beautiful Sydney Harbour for everyone from beginner to serious kayaker. It is also a great opportunity for kayakers to raise money for kids with disability whilst paddling past the city's icons including Luna Park, the Opera House and Fort Denison before heading into middle harbour and on to leafy Clontarf for the Lifestart family picnic. So Lifestart Kayak for Kids has three overall categories. The first is a single or doubles race for experienced paddlers who have their own craft. The second is a team challenge for teams of three people paddling the whole 17.5km of the course and the third is a team challenge for relay teams of four to twelve people. The teams relay is perfect for team building or novice paddlers. Each group of three persons paddles one 3-5km leg(which takes abut 20-30 minutes to complete) and then there is a change over of paddlers at the designated transition areas. For team challenge categories, hire of a three-seater kayak, paddles and life vests are all included in the entry fee.
Single Boat / Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Board / Outrigger x 1: $65
