Australian Canoeing (AC) Sprint Pathways – NTS and SDP update:

NATIONAL TALENT SQUAD (NTS) – Sprint

2017 will see a shift in the direction taken with our National Talent Squad (NTS) – in 2017 the NTS will consist of only selected members of the 2017 Junior (U18) and U23 National teams. The rationale around this is to enable AC Pathways to have a more focused approach on this group of athletes ensuring the level of support, servicing and resources are maximised, all geared towards getting better international performances at the U18 and U23 World Championships each year over the coming cycle and ultimately towards sustainable success for Australia at future senior World Championships and Olympic Games.

STATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS (SDP) – Sprint

AC Pathways aims to introduce a more stream lined State Development Program (SDP) model and systems in identified States and regions around the country. In the first half of 2017 the current system will be reviewed on a state by state basis and if necessary, a modified restructured model will be put in place.

As part of the review process the aim will be to help design and implement a more sustainable development model, which will be individually designed for each identified state. The plan is to create a model, which will successfully fast track each of the states most talented canoe sprint athletes towards high performance and in addition continually focusing on recruiting and identifying new talent – including Surf. (in some states this may mean little or no change)

The review process will be done in consultation between Australian Canoeing Pathways, State associations and where possible, with State Institute and Academy of Sports (SIS/SAS) and the National Centre of Excellence (NCE)

Athletes not selected for the 2017 Junior or U23 National Teams may be eligible for selection to the SDP so stay tuned – selection criteria and opportunities will be available shortly.

More details in relation to SDP, selection process and program requirements will be distributed and circulated over coming months. *2017 National Sprint Championship results will be used a vital component of the athlete identification process.

NOTE: All athletes selected on the 2017 Olympic Hopes Team will automatically be considered as members of SDP provided all the necessary agreements are in place and requirements are met.
