Australia’s Jessica Fox has added another silver medal to her 2016 canoe slalom World Cup campaign, finishing a close second in the final of the C1 in Pau, France, overnight.
22-year-old Fox picked up three gate touch penalties to finish just over one second behind Great Britain’s Mallory Franklin, who has just the one penalty.
“There were some early mistakes at the beginning of the run, so I knew I had to attack it and try and make up some time,” Fox said.
“There were some very challenging moves at the bottom of the course when you are tired, so it was about keeping it together. I’m really happy with the bottom section that I did.”
Fox won gold in the opening C1 World Cup event, but did not race the non-Olympic discipline last weekend in Spain so she could focus on the K1 event, in which she won silver at the London Olympics.
Fox will contest the semi-finals of the K1 in Pau on Sunday night, but said regardless of the result, she is satisfied with her World Cup campaign.
“There were a lot of silvers, which I’m really happy with,” she said.
“It was a very solid World Cup campaign, it’s been a good start to the season and something for me to build on.”
