The Australian men’s K4 1000 crew have added another silver medal to their impressive canoe sprint World Cup campaign, their last major race before they defend their Olympic gold medal in Rio.

The crew of Ken Wallace, Jacob Clear, Riley Fitzsimmons and Jordan Wood finished more than two seconds behind the Czech Republic at the third World Cup in Portugal.

The crew, who only began racing together recently, finished the World Cup season with a gold and two silver medals.

Australia is still to finalise the make-up of the K4 crew for Rio, with London gold medallist Murray Stewart planning to join the Australian team at a training camp later this month, and Lachlan Tame also available to join the boat.

In other results over the weekend, two-time World Championship silver medallists Wallace and Tame won silver in the men’s K2 1000, with teammates Riley Fitzsimmons and Jordan Wood third.

Lachlan Tame won gold in the non-Olympic K1 500.
