Olympic-bound athletes Jessica Fox and Ian Borrows will get a chance to test their progress in the lead-up to Rio when they contest the opening round of the canoe slalom World Cup in Ivrea, Italy, this weekend.

Fox, the silver medallist in London, will contest her Olympic event, the K1, and also the event which she has dominated in recent times, the C1.

Borrows will contest the C1 as he prepares for his first Olympic Games.

Fox will be joined in the K1 event by two of Australia’s most promising junior paddlers, her sister Noemie, and Tasmania’s Kate Eckhardt.

In the C1 Jessica and Noemie Fox will be joined by Alison Borrows and Georgia Rankin.

Australia will be represented in the men’s K1 by three-time Olympian, Warwick Draper, and Victoria’s Jaxon Merritt, who narrowly missed Olympic qualification to Lucien Delfour earlier this year.

The slalom cross discipline will also be making it’s World Cup debut in Ivrea, with Merritt the sole Australian entered to compete.
