It’s no surprise that many of the Geelong Canoe club Canoe Polo team have been selected to represent Victoria and Australia at the upcoming Australian and Oceania Championships.

Geelong Canoe club have been putting in a great show at the Victorian Interclub championships with their second win for the season at the recent Geelong interclub event.

Surprisingly the Geelong team consists mainly of juniors, who have stepped up to the challenge against the more experience open teams. Outstanding performances by Locky Reekie, Ben Winter, James Winter, Kal Rawson, Chloe Rosin and Mardi Stapleton helped the team to a second win.

Coach John Yacoub said, “Their success is true testament to their characters. They are determined, hard workers and focussed. We know the other states would like to knock the Victorians off their perch at Nationals, but this actually inspires these kids. It won’t be easy to back up our titles from 2013 and 2014, but these kids will leave no stone unturned in their quest to defend their titles.”

Keep your eye out for the Juniors at the Australian Canoeing Championships at Nagambie on April 4-6th, or at the Oceania Championships April 9-12th.
