Emerging Marathon Team strikes silver at RSA mara champs

Canoe Marathon / Jun 8, 2014

Congratulations to Bronwyn who won silver in the WK1 U18.  Bronwyn was in clear control of the front pack of 3 boats when she dropped her boat on the portage and bent the rudder and had to pull in for a quick fix.  She then worked really hard to pull in the other two girls, catching one but not quite the other.  Many commented on her gutsy performance.  Matilda had a tough race in cold conditions and finished a credible 4th.

Andrew paddled the full distance but carefully and it has done him the world of good.  He is raring to go tomorrow in the the K2.  The medicines have done their trick and he is much better.

Chris had a very tough race with a big, fast field.  He fought hard for the first half of the race and then paid for it but finished to our new cheering squad of U8-U16 paddlers from the Soweto Canoe Club whom we taught Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi.  It was rather moving.

So all in all, a good days racing.  The weather was cold but fortunately the wind was light and so we did not get as cold as I thought we would.  Tomorrow should be better weather.
