Prioux wins junior C1 World title

Prioux improved her semifinal run by a remarkable 27 seconds to win in a clean run of 127.24.

“I am very very happy, it is a beautiful feeling”, Prioux said.

A two second penalty for a gate touch on 17 proved a decisive blow for semifinal victor Martina Satkova, who had to settle for silver, 1.18 seconds behind Prioux.

A second Czech paddler filled the minor placing’s with Anna Koblencova collecting the bronze in 131.79.

Junior K1W champion Ana Satila of Brazil was unable to complete the double finishing fourth. Satila produced the fastest raw time but five gate touches relegated her out of the medals.

A third Czech athlete, Jana Matulkova rounded out the top five.

Local paddler Alexandra Broome improved 11 places on her result in 2013 to come eight, the highest of the Australians. Noemie Fox finished tenth.
