Update 2 – Marathon National Championships

Canoe Marathon / Apr 7, 2014

In the next few days a preliminary entry list will be made available on the regattas.canoe.org.au web site.
No payment, no start at the championships and there must be no other debts with Australian Canoeing.
Safety of athletes, spectators and others is paramount and the orgainsing committee are committed to this objective. 

The organising committee have obtained an exemption for the wearing of PFD's however this does not mean safety standards will be relaxed.  The exemption comes with conditions.  The exemption can be viewed at http://www.ballarat.vic.gov.au/ac/public-notices.aspx

To answer some frequently asked questions.

Do I have to wear a PFD during the championships?
Yes, if you are:
  • Under 16 years of age, or
  • Not a strong or confident swimmer, or
  • Have a medical condition that may affect your ability and increase the chances of a capsize or swim ability, or
  • So directed by the Competition Committee.

Do I still need to bring a PFD to the championships?

Yes, as the Competition Committee may direct you to wear a PFD for the competition.  Should there be such a direction you will need access to a PFD.

Will there be spare PFD's available?

No, it is strictly BYO PFD.

If I use Lake Wendouree for training before Friday, do I have to wear a PFD?

Yes, the exemption is only for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the championships between the times of 7:00am and 4:00pm.  Outside of these tie you will need to wear a PFD.

Merchandise and Dinner Tickets

If you wish to secure your polo shirt or hoodie or both, or dinner tickets these are still available by contacting Connie Todaro on email Connie bark2@alphalink.com.au  Connie will advise method of payment.

Boat Hire

Persons wishing to hire a kayak for the championships can contact Terry Poole on email goodgear@iprimus.com.au 


It is planned to have the results live on the web at these championships.  The draw will be available on Thursday 17 April 2014 and will be settled at the Team Leaders meeting on the Friday.  The result will be available on regattas.canoe.org.aucompetition.
