Currently the Goobagandra river is below minimum and there is
little forecast for rain that is likely to make it rise.

It has therefore been decided to move the racing to our back up venue
of the Upper Snowy River above Jindabyne near Island Bend.  It has
been decided that it is probably best to camp at the Jindabyne Caravan
Park which is right in Jindabyne opposite the main shopping centre
called Nuggets Crossing. The phone number is (02) 6456 2249 and the
website is

For those that do not wish to tent it there are cabins available.  As
the river put in and pull out is not easy to find it is best to stay
in Jindabyne and meet Peter McIntyre who can show the way to the
river. Peter's contact mobile number is 0409 419922 and he will have
reception in Jindabyne but not up at the river.

This water is dam released from the Guthega power station and is very
cold therefore we recommend good clothing such as a decent Cag
especially when training on the river.  If anyone coming to the
championships can email Peter on advising
approximate arrival times to Jindabyne that would be appreciated so
that he can co-ordinate to meet and get people up to the river.  If
travelling from down south it is recommended to take the Snowy
mountains Highway before reaching Gundagai and following this all the
way through Adaminaby to the end near Cooma and then take a right turn
following the main road right through to Jindabyne.

As the river is in the Kosciusko National Park it will be necessary to
get vehicle passes which can be purchased when driving up the

The approximate directions to the river are as follows:

Take the road out of Jindabyne as if travelling to Perisher Valley.
Driving up you will come to the park entrance.  Keep going until you
come to a right turn to Guthega.  The road then goes down into
the valley and comes to a fork and some turn offs to some dirt tracks
which is Island Bend.  By taking the tracks always to the left you
will eventually come to the pull out point on the river.  If
travelling further up the tar sealed road towards Guthega you will
eventually see a track and a gate on the right hand side which is the
put in point.  This is approximately 3 to 4 kilometres up the road
from the exit turn off.  If you miss it the next most obvious point is
the Power station on the right hand side down a right hand turn.  This
is quite a few kilometres further up the road. There is a maze of
tracks at Island Bend so it will be best to be shown the first time
where to go.
