Stage is set for a fast finish at the slalom nationals

Canoe Slalom / Jan 11, 2013

The final day of racing at the slalom nationals begins tomorrow at 8:30 with the finals in all classes determining the open national title.

A close race will be in prospect between Sarah Grant, Jess Fox and Ros Lawrence in women’s K1 with Fox and Lawrence then doing battle in the women’s C1.

In the men’s C1 the tussle will be between Ian Borrows, Rob Jeffery and Ethan Hodson, with Victorians Christian Fabris and Warwick Draper also strong contenders.

Fabien Doerfler of Germany looks hard to beat on today’s form where he  opened a gap on Lucien Delfour and Warwick Draper but the single run final may tell a different story.

The second round of the junior world championship selection will also be determined on Saturday with Tristan Carter (VIC) in C1, Daniel Watkins (TAS) in K1, Noemie Fox (NSW) in K1 and C1 and WA pair Brodie Crawford and Steven Lowther the C2 leaders from today, looking to defend wins..

In the final session of today’s racing, Robin Jeffery stayed on top in the C2 event but without London Olympic C2 partner Kynan Maley in Eildon this afternoon.

Jeffery, a semi finalist in the C2 at the London Olympic Games, partnered Ethan Hodson to take the win just ahead of Ian Borrows and Lucien Delfour with Warwick Draper & Lewis Wylie in third.

WA youngsters Brodie Crawford & Steven Lowther were impressive placing 4th overall and comfortably taking out the Under 18 class. Equally impressive was the Under 16 year old Tassie pair Rohan Borojevic and Oliver Gales.

In the women’s C2 event the second run produced a close finish between Sarah Grant and Ros Lawrence who finished less than a second ahead of NSW pair Alison Borrows and Jess Fox.
