Sizzling finals in prospect at the slalom nationals

Canoe Slalom / Jan 10, 2013

Water levels rose on the River Goulburn with increased irrigation flows providing more challenging conditions for competitors at the 2012 Slalom nationals near Eildon.

Today’s racing was all about the age group national titles for men’s and women’s C1, women’s K1 and mixed C2, the first round of selection for the junior world championship team and qualification for the open finals on Saturday.

Sarah Grant set up the prospect of a sizzling finale to the nationals in the women’s K1 event by squeezing ahead of Jess Fox by four tenths of a second in today’s qualification race with a score of 102.83 with Ros Lawrence a further 3 seconds back in 3rd. The single run final on Saturday will determine the national open title.

Jess Fox (NSW) was the Under 23 winner, Georgia Rankin (WA) won the Under 18 class while Noemie Fox (NSW) and Kira Wall (WA) claimed the respective Under 16 and Under 14 national honours.
