Canoe Sprint season kicks off in Adelaide

General / Dec 11, 2012

While the event doubled as a selection trial for the AYOF team, it was also a chance for plenty of paddlers to get their season underway.

Beijing Olympic medallist Hannah Davis had a productive meet, comfortably winning both the K1 1000m and K1 500m womenÕs categories over Victorian Catherine McArthur.

McArthur put aside the disappointment of these second places to take out the K1 200m and then combined with fellow Victorian Marlena Ahrens to win the K2 500m and K2 200m races.

On top of his AYOF selection, it was a successful meet for youngster Bill Bain who also took out the open K1 500m race, then teamed up with Glenn Rypp to take out the K2 500m over West Lakes locals Callum Dunn and Jeremy Petho.

Bain and Rypp were also part of the winning menÕs K4 1000m crew along with Todd Brewer and Brendan Rice.

It was also a good meet for Northern Territorian Lachlan Tame, who combined with Daniel Bowker to win the K2 1000m, then teamed up with Brodie Holmes to win the K2 200m.

West Australian paddler Holmes had the best of his partner in the menÕs K1 200m, winning by more than half a second over Tame.
